The Knaresborough House

CASE NR.6

The Knaresborough House

Tile Club recently completed a fireplace tiling project in a beautifully styled home in Knaresborough, where the brief was to complement the property’s calm Scandinavian inspired interior with a clean, natural tile finish. The project involved tiling two walls behind an existing tall wood burning stove, as well as fully tiling a separate chimney breast in another room, which included a small recessed niche shelf.
For this installation we used Bergen stone effect porcelain tiles from Mandarin Stone’s Matt Decor range, selected for their subtle texture and soft, neutral tone. The tiles bring a refined stone appearance while offering the durability and practicality of porcelain, making them ideal for fireplace areas that require both style and resilience.
The tall wood burner was already installed, which meant the tiling required particularly careful planning to achieve a seamless finish around the stove and flue. The stone effect tiles were installed across both walls behind the burner, creating a balanced and understated backdrop that enhances the clean lines of the stove while reinforcing the calm, minimalist feel of the room.

In the second room, the full chimney breast was tiled floor to ceiling, incorporating a small recessed niche shelf within the design. This detail required meticulous mitre cuts and alignment to ensure the tile pattern flowed naturally across the entire surface while framing the niche neatly and proportionally within the layout.
This project was very much about craftsmanship and precision. The understated stone texture allows the quality of the installation to take centre stage, creating a fireplace feature that feels both architectural and effortlessly integrated into the Scandinavian style interior.
The finished result is a pair of beautifully executed tiled fireplace features that combine natural materials, thoughtful design and expert installation to elevate the character of the home.
